Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: The most effective way for government to encourage energy conservation is increasing the price of gasoline and electricity. Nowadays, frequent power cut or the drain of oil supply has become a serious problem that concerns us with its damage to not only the environment, but also our efficiency in work and study. Although some people propose to raise the cost of fuel as a solution to this issue, I personally believe that it is not the best way to solve the problem of air pollution. Indeed, increasing the cost of gasoline and electricity can conserve energy to some extents. Considering the higher price of the fuel, more people would reduce their use of private cars or shut down lights and the air-conditioner when leaving home. As a result, the reduced number of cars leads to a decrease in demand to the gasoline and hence make the use of energy more efficiency. However, this solution does not solve the problem completely. Even the price of the gas goes up, most people would still choose to pay because fuels are the basic need for them to work and travel. Such necessity is not able to be replaced, and conservative problems would continue to be a problem. For example, my mom drives to work every day because there are no subway or buses between our home and her working
place. Moreover, the public transportation is way too time-consuming and less comfortable. For government, exploiting new energy sources, on the other hand, is a better alternative to energy conservation because its a stable solution that will solve the problem eternally. Cars that are powered by solar energy, for example, do not have to worry about the limited power supply, since it uses a long-lasting and powerful battery to absorb and store the energy from the sunlight and then use this energy to power the cars. According to research conducted by scientists in Japan and China, by holding the transformation rate between solar energy to electricity to 28 percent, the solar energy cars do not have to recharge itself and can keep running under the sun for 18 hours. Based on this, cars driven by solar energy would push the limits of energy to a new level. Moreover, spreading out the concept of conserving energy is another more effective way to achieve the goal. In fact, there are certain group of citizens who are concerned with extravagant energy use, and they are quite cautious in using electricity, water and oiling their cars. If the government can take measures to educate more people with the same principles, energy consumption might drop considerately. Henry’s father used to be a truck driver when he was young. He is so fond of driving truck that he even go to nearby Walmart by his Toyota Tundra. After Henry was lectured about the energy crisis in many developing countries like India, he was aware of the fact that by saving energy as much as possible himself, he was able to help a family in New Deli to use electricity constantly for a night. Furthermore, he asked his father to join him and persuaded him to change driving truck into some clean energy car, namely Prius. By doing this, they might save certain amount of
gasoline that could help poor people in Northwest Tibet use heaters in winter. All in all, I believe raising the cost of the fuel is not the best way to conserve energy, since they are better alternatives such as applying new energy sources and necessary education to more people about necessity on energy crisis.
8 月 22 日托福口语真题回忆: s1: what should we do to help the elder in our community? Sample I like to help the old to do the following stuff. First, give them a hand with house chores. Some of them have trouble moving around, if I assist them with housework, they would be really grateful. Take my neighbor as an example, she has been lying on bed for years, I always help her cook and sweep the floor. Second, reading to the elder is a good way to help them get rid of loneliness. Some of the old people live far away from their sons and daughters, and they feel isolated. If I read stories to them, they will feel released and happy, and they rebuild their confidence in life. s2: which do you prefer? watch a movie silently or chatting with others? Sample I prefer to watch a movie silently for the following reasons. First, I'm a movie buff. Sometimes I go to the movie theatre by myself. That way, I can enjoy the movie and relate the story to my life. If I were accompanied by someone else, I would be disturbed while watching the movie. Last time, I went to the cinema with my classmates, they actually annoyed me. They kept talking during the movie, having popcorns and even taking photos during the movie. I was ashamed of staying with them because I heard other people were judging us. I won't watch movies with them again, and I think it's definitely impolite to talk while others are enjoying themselves. s3: The school should list the menu in the canteen. firstly, the student could know the ingredients of the dish and make a healthier
choice. secondly, the students could eat those food at home and practice cooking skill. The woman agrees with that suggestion. firstly, the student could avoid choosing the unhealthy dishes like sauce with abundant sugar. secondly, the students should have cooking skills after graduation and that policy could help them enhance cooking skills. s4: the professor illustrates the concept of bidirection, which means the kids and parents influence each other. the professor make an example that Max always yells and shouts but her parents always smile back to him. His parents spend more time on him to teach and influence him. s5: a student would prepare for an exam tonight. but an author would make a presentation at the same time. he has two opinions . 1 does not go to the presentation 2 listen the presentation and prepare the exam after the presentation. I think the first opinion is better because the student could have a good sleep and it could be helpful for the exam. s6: the professor illustrate why many insects release chemical material. firstly the insects do so to locate where the food is .secondly, the insects do so to mate with each other. 8 月 22 日托福真题回忆: 阅读部分 机经词汇: altogether=fully tangible=physical sequence=series exploitation=use steadily=unvarying reflect=indicate subsequent=later 第一篇 考生回忆:本文主要讲述的是对于测算地球年龄的各种尝试。
Which of the following volunteer work would you choose and why? (1) Working as a home tutor
(2) Helping adults to read (3) Providing transportation for elder people [091108 CN] If you could do one thing for your community, what will you do and why? If I ever had the chance to do something with the elderly in a senior center. I would definitely choose to read some news to them because it’ll provide them an opportunity to learn more about the current trends. For most seniors, such as my grandma, she didn't have the luxury of going to a proper school when she was young so it was very difficult for her to read about stuff in a book or in a newspaper. And some of them are very eager to be updated with what’s really going on domestically or internationally. Moreover, old people in the senior centers are very lonely, so I think it will mean a lot to them if someone is patient enough to read some news to them intimately.
