Set up & go The first time you turn on your phone, a setup wizard guides you through signing in to your Google™ account. If you don’t have one, don’t worry, the wizard will help you create one. Note: This phone supports data-intensive apps and services. It is strongly recommended that you purchase a data plan that meets your needs.Contact your service provider for details. 1 Press and hold Power on top of your phone to turn it on. 2 Select a language. 3 Follow the setup wizard to create or log in to your Google account. Wi-Fi™ connect If you want to use a Wi-Fi network for even faster Internet access, touch Menu > Wireless & networks > Wi-Fi settings. There’s more in “Wi-Fi™” on page 24. > Settings Cool content & more Browse and download thousands of the coolest apps on the planet from Android Market™ (see “Apps for all” on page 21). Your phone comes with a microSD memory card installed—you can load it up with photos, videos, and music from your computer using “USB drag & drop” on page 35. Lock & unlock To lock the screen/phone: Press Power Let the screen time out (don’t press anything). To unlock the screen/phone: Press Power to the right. , then drag . Touchscreen & keys a few essentials Touch tips Touch: Choose an icon or option. Touch & Hold: Open options. Drag: Scroll or move slowly. Flick: Scroll or move quickly. Touch to open. Touch & hold to move items (or open options in lists). To zoom, pinch two fingers together or apart. Tip: When you flick a list, touch again to stop scrolling. If your screen goes to sleep, press Power . BACKTRACK™ touchpad To navigate without obstructing the touchscreen, you can use the rear touchpad to swipe between panels, lists and websites. To activate glow mode, touch and hold on the touch pad. Then, use the touchpad to navigate the glow on the display. Touch the touchpad to select an item. to close any menu or app and return Key tips Menu, home, back, & search Touch Home to the home screen. Spin the screen You can set the touchscreen to rotate 90 degrees in some apps, such as messaging and contacts, to stay right-side up when you rotate your phone: Find it: Menu > Orientation > Settings > Sound & display . To wake up the touchscreen, press again and drag Sleep & wake up To save your battery, prevent accidental touches, or when you want to wipe smudges off your touchscreen, put the touchscreen to sleep by pressing Power Power phone. To change how long your phone waits before the screen goes to sleep automatically, touch Menu > Settings > Sound & display > Screen timeout. Tip: To make the screen lock when it goes to sleep, use “Screen lock” on page 38. to the right, or open the Power key menu Press and hold Power menu, where you can turn off the phone (Power off), or turn Airplane mode or Silent mode either ON or OFF. to open the power key Adjust volume Press the volume keys (page 2) to change the ring volume (in the home screen), or the earpiece volume (during a call).
