Travel allows us to experience the world. But as we travel, we are also leaving
our footprint on every place we visit. This is why culturally immersive (沉浸) travel
is so important. Because the wrong kind of travel negatively affects the world. One
of the reasons we started this blog was to help others travel better and feel
comfortable getting off the beaten path, interacting with locals, and take you
“Beyond the traditional Bucketlist”, if you will.
People who only get 2-weeks off per year are often just looking for an easy
destination with a beach to relax on. This isn’t travel. This is a vacation. But
“Immersive Travel” or “Cultural Travel” is an entirely new type of trip. It is
about experiencing and preserving the various traditions around the world. It’s
about being open to new experiences and willing to step into another’s shoes.
Cultural travel is jumping in with both feet and leaving your idea about what your
trip should be behind you. It’s eating local dishes and sleeping in guesthouses.
It’s building genuine connections with locals. It’s learning about the history
of a country and leaving your trip with a greater understanding of the place you
came to see and the people who live there.
Often times in today’s age, “travelers” will visit a country just to snap
some photos of the famous sights to post on Instagram or to drink the night away,
or even just to relax on a tropical beach. But that kind of vacation can be harmful
to the very communities you’re traveling to.
Beyond supporting the local communities and the preservation of local customs
and traditions, you’ll also experience some personal benefits through cultural
travels. There’s simply no way to travel this way with a closed mind. You’ll get
to know different cultures intimately and understand them a lot better. You’ll also
become less judgmental of others the more you travel.

2. According to the author, today's travelers tend to_________.
A. establish close connections with the locals during the travel
B. choose a tourist attraction for adventure and exploration
C. show more interest in the history of a travel destination
D. post the photos taken in the journey on the social media
3. What can be inferred about the culturally immersive travel?
A. It is focused on studying local people's lifestyle.
B. Its travelers should be open-minded and understanding.
C. It is a specific way to make judgments of other cultures.
D. Its major concern is preserving local traditions and customs.
4. Where is the text probably taken from?

Wildlife conservation is the preservation and protection of animals, plants,
and their habitats. By conserving wildlife, we’re ensuring that future generations
can enjoy our natural world and the unbelievable species that live within it. To
help protect wildlife, it’s important to understand how species interact within
their ecosystems, and how they are affected by environmental and human influences.
Plants and animals have life events that seemingly occur like clockwork every
year. Birds can migrate, mammals may hibernate (冬眠), flowers bloom, and leaves
change colors. The study of how the biological world times these natural events is
called phenology. Scientists now understand that plants and animals are strongly
influenced by their local climate (long-term weather patterns). Climate is affected
by non-biological factors — temperature, precipitation (降水), and available
sunlight. Species use the predictable yearly changes in the climate to determine
when they start natural events such as breeding or flowering.
Climate change is slowly increasing average annual temperatures. One of the most
noticeable ways that climate change is influencing wildlife is by changing the timing
of natural events. With warmer temperatures, flowering plants are blooming earlier
in the year and migratory birds are returning from their wintering grounds earlier
in the spring. Phenology is an important subject for conservationists to study
because it helps us understand the patterns of specific species and overall ecosystem
health. Every species has an effect on those in its food chain and community, and
the timing of one species’ phenological events can be very important to the survival
of another species.
5. According to paragraph 1, what helps a lot in wildlife conservation?
A. Investigating the major threat to the wildlife habitat loss
B. Ensuring future generations have enough natural species.
C. Exploring the reasons contributing to interaction between species.
D. Studying the effects of environmental and human activities on wildlife
6. It can be learned that “phenology” is a branch of science that studies__________.
A. the yearly changes of the climate
B. the conservation of the whole ecosystem
C. the seasonal behaviors of animals like bird migration
D. the relations between climate and biological phenomena
7. How does the climate change negatively affect the wildlife?
A. It ruins the overall ecosystem health.
B. It leads to the mass extinction of wildlife
C. It disturbs the timing of species’ life events.
D. It affects the food chain of another community.
8. What is the text mainly about?
A. The importance of phenological study in wildlife conservation.
B. The relationship between climate and non-biological factors.
C. The significance of understanding wildlife conversation.
D. The influence of climate change on the wildlife.

your nose all the time? Maybe you’ve struggled to keep your focus, or feel like
you’re walking in a dream. The good news is you are not alone and there’s a name
for this feeling: brain fog.
Brain fog feels like it takes hours to complete a 10-minute task or that you’
re struggling to listen and understand what is being said. It is not a medical
condition or a diagnosis (诊断). It’s simply a term to describe the inability to
remember and concentrate on things, use logic, or solve problems. Some people with
brain fog experience problems with speech and language; it can be hard putting their
thoughts into words and finding the right words, and their speech might be slow and
confused.
Everyone can experience brain fog if you have poor sleep habits and are getting
less than 7 hours of sleep each night. Secondly, the lack of enough vitamin and the
eating of certain unhealthy foods, like alcohol and caffeine, play a role in brain
function and can be one of the causes of your brain fog symptoms (症状). Additionally,
high levels of stress, or long-term stress, can cause a series of health problems,
including brain fog.
If you’re wondering how to get rid of brain fog, I have good news: you can get
rid of it by making a few lifestyle changes. First, you need to change your diet.
If you are experiencing brain fog, there is a good chance your diet is the cause
of your brain fog. Besides, just attempt to relieve your stress. It’s important
to make time every day for doing activities you love to get away from the stress,
such as exercise, taking baths or meditating with an app on your phone. Also, you
shall get enough sleep since studies show that quality sleep can make you eat more
healthy and get rid of your brain fog.
9. What can be learned about brain fog from the passage?
A. A deadly disease caused by head injuries.
B. A specific term referring to the loss of one’s memory.
C. A medical condition related to one’s thinking disorder.
D. A health problem affecting one’s memory and focus on things.
10. Which of the following factors might cause brain fog?
A. A little bit of stress.
C. The control on caffeine.
11. What is recommended to get rid of brain fog?
A. Removing unhealthy foods from your diet.

C. Reducing stress by limiting your favorite activities
D. Receiving special training to recover your memory

___14___ You are the one who must live with their consequences.

make their advice helpful, and having participated in a great deal of your personal

care and protection. Or they may see only your strength. ___16___
People will always be giving your advice. Finally, though, you have to make your
own judgments.
A. Making your own decisions does not mean that you should ignore others'
suggestions.
B. Or, in some unfortunate cases, they may concentrate only on your shortcomings.
C. You must have heard such suggestions given by parents or others close to you.

【答案】Dear Paul,
Hearing that you run into difficulties with your Chinese listening, I’m writing
to express my concern and offer you some advice on how to learn it well.
Your problem is so common among foreign learners that you needn’t worry too
much. As the saying goes, practice makes perfect! So it’s a good idea to practice
Chinese daily. Besides, listening to Chinese radio programs is a better choice, which
can not only entertain you, but also improve your listening skills. Additionally,
you can communicate with your Chinese teacher who can tell you how to improve your
Chinese listening ability effectively.
I hope my advice can be helpful! Wish you all the best.
Yours,
Li Hua
