When she was 2 years old, Blosberg’s dad was diagnosed (诊断) with a serious
illness that disrupts the central nervous system — MS (多发性硬化症). But 13 years
later, her eyes started moving around rapidly and uncontrollably and her skin became
extremely sensitive. The symptoms she was experiencing felt “familiar” because
they really looked a lot like the things that her dad was experiencing.
After Blosberg was officially diagnosed with MS in 2011, she realized she needed
to connect with other teenagers who had MS and truly understood what she was going
through. “I knew there had to be other kids out there, and I wanted to connect with
them,” she says. Blosberg then decided to create a Facebook page for young people
with MS and obtained the help of the National MS Society. “If you find anyone else
young, let me know,” Blosberg recalls saying to the organization. “I want to talk
to them. I want them to know that they’re not alone.”
MS is often considered “an adult illness”. Blosberg’s Facebook page was her
way of bringing young people with MS together. But she decided to take things one
step further by founding a nonprofit, the MS Monkey, that supports children and
teenagers who have been diagnosed with the illness. Through it all, Blosberg says
her entire family has been proud of her — especially her father. “He knows what
it’s like to live with MS,” she shares. “He’s my role model, though. I grew up
watching him live with MS and not let MS get in the way.”

Moments after figure skaters finish their program, fans throw gifts onto the
ice. There have definitely been some strange ones over the years. As NBC Sports
reports, Sasha Cohen was once given sweaters; Canada’s Elvis Stojko and Patrick
Chan walked away with lingerie (内衣); Debi Thomas even got a box of Domino’s pizza
after her performance at the 1987 world championships because Thomas had wondered
why people “don’t throw something good, like pizza”.
The post-program offerings are mostly stuffed (填充的) animal toys. Though it’
s not clear exactly how or when this custom began, people really like to use them
as gifts. Flowers, once the popular item to throw at skaters, are messy. The cleaners
—the kids who skate around to collect all the gifts between programs—have a much
easier time to deal with stuffed toys than fighting with every leaf that fell off
the flowers.
There’s no global ban (禁令) on sending flowers, but organizations have made
attempts to discourage the practice in the past. In 1989 US Figure Skating banned
arenas (圆形运动场) hosting national championships from selling flowers.
“Flowers have always been a problem. The flowers and leaves can appear during
the course and become a risk. So flowers on the arena are going to vanish. It is
just a question of when.” said Larry Kriwanek, chair of the event’s organizing
committee. Instead, fans could buy already-authorized stuffed toys inside the arena
and show their favorite skaters with those.
Stuffed toys also give supporters an opportunity to choose presents that suit
their favorite skaters characters. “We will sometimes get stuffed toys made in
custom costumes to match what we’re wearing,” American ice dancer Meryl Davis,
who won gold with partner Charlie White in 2014, told NBC Sports. It turns out that
skaters often do try to take especially meaningful or thoughtful gifts home with
them.
28. What does the second paragraph mainly talk about?
A. Why skaters are supported by so many people.
B. Why sending stuffed toys to skaters is popular.
C. How skaters collect gifts from fans after the show.
D. How fans can show their love to their favorite skaters.
29. Why does the author mention 1989 US Figure Skating?
A. To draw a comparison.
C. To explain a phenomenon.
30. What does the underlined word “vanish” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. Change.

Some people wake up before the sun rises above, go for a run and eat a healthy
breakfast, all before many others get out of bed. Waking up that early might sound
tiring to late risers, but can a night owl (夜猫子) become an early bird?
“It is possible to make the change, but it’s not easy,” said Michelle Drerup,
director of behavioral sleep medicine at the Cleveland Clinic. “A true night owl
doesn’t really feel great early in the morning when they wake up, especially when
they’re starting to change this.”
A person’s tendency to be a night owl, early bird or some kind in between is
known as their chronotype (生物钟). Depending on that, people are likely to be more
awake during certain times of the day and sleepier during others. It is determined
by a combination of nature and life style, scientists have found.
If you want to wake up earlier, make the change gradually. Drerup recommended
slowly setting your wake-up alarm earlier by 15 to 20 minutes every few days over
the course of several weeks until you’re adjusted to your schedule. Sticking to
it is the key.
“Limit exposure (接触) to light in the hour before bed, such as by staying away
from screens,” Drerup said. Light blocks the body's production of melatonin (褪
黑色素) which is thought to set our circadian rhythm (昼夜节律). And in the morning,
try to get exposure to light as soon as you wake up, to end melatonin production.
Avoid exciting activities late in the evening. Instead of exercising at night, try
working out in the morning or afternoon. You may also need to change your meal times
to earlier time in the day.
If being a night owl works for you, there is actually no need to change your
sleep schedule. But staying up late becomes a problem when you must wake up early
for work and school. It can also increase your risk of developing health.
32. What is a feature of night owls?
A. They tend to be more awake than an early bird.
B. Their sleeping pattern can never be changed.
C. They might not feel good when getting up early.
D. Their habit of sleeping late can ruin their health.
33. What might cause people to become night owls?
A. Their sleeping patterns.
B. Their behavior during sleep.
C. Their tendency to stay awake.
D. Their ability to adapt to change.
34. Which of the following may help a night owl become an early bird?
A. Doing more exercise before sleeping.
B. Avoiding exposure to light after waking up.
C. Setting alarm clock earlier each day.
D. Trying to sleep early and wake up early.
35. What is the text mainly about?
A. The risks of sleeping late.
B. How night owls change their sleep schedule.
C. The benefits of becoming an early bird.
D. How to lead a healthy life.

Fiona Simpson, 23, was on her way home. She was driving on the D'Aguilar Highwav
in Queensland, Australia. It was a long, lonely road, but she had company at least.
Her 78-year-old grandmother and four-month-old daughter were with her for the
journey.
Clouds started to roll in overhead. Fiona hadn't bothered to listen to the
weather report that morning. Mostly because she had expected to arrive home before
any sort of downpour hit. As she drove down the D’Aguilar Highway, however, the
slight pattering(拍打) of rain began to beat into an angry drum beat upon the roof
of the car.
Even though she had been driving quite slowly, she could hardly see the lines
in the road. The pouring rain soon became so heavy that her windshield wipers(雨
刮器) couldn't keep up. Fiona knew that her only option was to pull the car onto
the side of the road until the bad weather lessened.
