Phaser 540 Plus Color Printer ® The Phaser 540 Plus Color Printer is Tektronix’ second generation color laser printer. This addendum provides an overview of the new features available in the 540 Plus and the changes that apply to the Phaser 540 User Manual . The Phaser 540 Plus provides all the features, print modes, and color matching capabilities of the Phaser 540, and uses the same convenient customer replaceable components. Phaser 540 Plus Color Printer Legal-size printing The Phaser 540 Plus supports a new paper tray that accommodates legal-size paper. Phaser 540 Plus Color Printer When using the legal-size paper tray, your printer must have the following memory configurations to print using each print-quality mode: Print-quality mode Fast (printer default) Standard Presentation Enhanced Memory requirements 20 Mbytes 36 Mbytes 36 Mbytes 52 Mbytes (maximum configuration) The optional legal-size tray can be ordered from your local Tektronix authorized reseller or directly from Tektronix; the order number is 436-0314-00. Phaser 540 Plus Color Printer Faster throughput The Phaser 540 Plus incorporates several enhancements that provide faster throughput: n n n Faster recovery from EnergyStar mode (when the printer has been idle for more than one hour) saves nearly two minutes in the time the printer takes to make the first print. The printer’s default print-quality mode is now 40 seconds in the time to first print when from the computer driver. Print-quality modes n n Presentation mode has been added; it is suitable for creating presentation materials such as overhead transparencies or presentation handouts with a color sweep in the background. This mode uses a custom halftone that improves color uniformity for shaded area fills. Phaser 540 Plus Color Printer Troubleshooting tools The Test Print and Service Prints, which you access from the printer’s front panel, have been improved for diagnosing print quality. n n The new Test Print shows a 25% tint of each color (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black) and covers the full area of the page for quick verification of printing characteristics. Service Print 1 provides for better diagnostics if a problem is detected in the Test Print. When you select Service Print 1 in the front panel menu, the printer produces four full pages of 25% tint coverage, one for each color: cyan, magenta, yellow, and black.
