Take the items and accessories shown above out of the carton. 2. Remove the plastic bag and peel off the shipping tape from the printer. Peeling off the shipping tapes from the printer 2

MANUAL FEED indicator (amber) ERROR indicator (amber) PAPER indicator (amber) ON LINE indicator (green) Panel button Printer is online (ready). • Receiving data via parallel interface. • Printing the test page. Printer is off. Printer is standing by waiting for man- ual paper feed. (Blinking slowly) Power save mode. Out of paper. Load more paper to con- tinue printing. Paper misfeed. Clear the paper misfeed and con- tinue printing. Cover open. Close the cover. • Print job is too com- plex. • Paper size mis- match. • Adobe Memory Booster is in use. 5
PP8L.book Page 6 Wednesday, June 30, 1999 2:10 PM Attaching the Face-Down Tray and Tray 1 Step2 1. Insert the 3 tabs of the face-down tray into the catch holes located along the top of the printer unit. Set the hooks that are located on both sides of the tray into the coordinating holes of the printer unit as shown in the illustration. 2. Using the left and right slots in the printer as guides, gently push Tray 1 until it cannot be inserted any further. 3. Attach the cover onto Tray 1. 6
PP8L.book Page 7 Wednesday, June 30, 1999 2:10 PM Loading Paper Step3 1. Remove the cover from Tray 1. 2. Open the paper size guides. 3. Place several pages of paper in Tray 1 and adjust the paper size guides. 4. Replace the tray cover. 7
PP8L.book Page 8 Wednesday, June 30, 1999 2:10 PM Connecting the Power Cord Step4 1. Make sure that the printer’s power switch is in the O (Off) position. 2. Connect one end of the power cord that comes with the printer to the power cord socket. Plug the other end into a power outlet. Turning the Power On/Off Step5 TurningthepowerON After connecting the printer to a power outlet, press the power switch to the I (On) position. Turning on the printer causes all of the indicators on the control panel to light, which indicates that the printer is warming up. In about 20 seconds, only the READY indi- cator remains lit, indicating that the printer is ready to print. TurningthepowerOFF Press the power switch to the O (Off) position to turn the printer off. Note DO NOT turn the power OFF while: • printing • the printer is receiving the data from the computer (the indicator on the control panel is blinking) resetting the printer • 8
