Scope
1. Purpose
To inform all ASCs of Rooting check policy. Note: this notice is applicable for Android
OS models except GT-I9300. For specific advice for GT-I9300 please see document:
(12-85) GT-I9300 'In Warranty' repair for custom case in the rooting check mode
2. Reason
It is necessary to detect an abnormally rooted phone (where phone Operating System
has been tampered with) as Rooted handsets are classed as Out of Warranty.
3. Instruction
Refer to below procedure to CHECK IF THE PHONE IS ROOTED. This should be
done as part of the initial fault diagnosis prior to commencing any repair action.
1) Enter Download Mode on the device and check if rooted.
※ Download Mode: Volume Down key + Home key + Power Key and press Volume Up
key.

rooted phone. (Note: Some devices might not display a ‘System Status’ column.)
※ Ignore ‘Custom Binary Download’ column.
(Note : Some latest devices might not display this column)
※ If you replace the PBA (main board) as part of the Out of Warranty repair and
then enter download mode, the System Status might show a ‘Custom’ result.
The Custom result shown on the replacement PBA is a default value and the
correct result will be displayed if you recheck when booting up the device after
re-writing the IMEI.
The PBAs are normal (i.e. Official), so please download Official S/W and then
perform IMEI writing.
