DoCoMo W-CDMA System Thank you for purchasing FOMA F901iC mobile terminal. Both before and during use of your FOMA F901iC mobile terminal, be sure to thoroughly read this manual and instruction manuals that come with the battery pack and other devices to ensure you are able to correctly use your FOMA F901iC mobile terminal. For more information, you may also contact us as mentioned on the back of this manual. Treated with care, your FOMA F901iC mobile terminal will be your able partner. Before Using Your FOMA Mobile Terminal • Because your FOMA terminal uses radio waves, it may not function in locations where it is difficult for radio waves to penetrate, such as tunnels, underground passages and some buildings, in areas where radio wave signals are weak, or when outside the service area. Even when you are high up in a tall building or condominium and nothing blocks your view outside, your FOMA terminal may not be able to receive or transmit signals. Also, communication may be interrupted even when the signal meter on your FOMA terminal indicates there is a strong signal and you are not moving (traveling). Use your FOMA terminal in a way that does not disturb others in public spaces, crowded locations or quiet places. Because your FOMA terminal uses radio waves to communicate, there is a possibility that third parties may attempt to listen in on your calls. The W-CDMA system automatically supports a confidential communication function for all calls so even if someone should somehow be able to tap a call, the signals are modified so that the eavesdropping party will hear only noise. Your FOMA terminal encodes voice communication as digital data. When you are operating your FOMA terminal while moving to a location subject to weaker radio wave signals, the transmitted digital data may not be correctly decoded and as a result the decoded voice may differ somewhat from the actual voice. Maintain a separate record of the data you register in your FOMA terminal. If the data should be erased, DoCoMo assumes no responsibility for the loss of any data. The user hereby agrees that the user shall be solely responsible for the result of the use of SSL. Neither DoCoMo nor the certifier as listed herein makes any representation and warranty as for the security in the use of SSL. In the event that the user shall sustain damage or loss due to the use of SSL, neither DoCoMo nor the certifier shall be responsible for any such damage or loss. This manual explains functions performed with a miniSD memory card. How to use this manual The structure of this manual and the manner of description are explained here. • The operation procedure is mainly explained in Shortcut operations ( → P32). For shortcut operations for the each menu item, see menu list ( → P554). In this manual, to select an item by placing the cursor with udlr (multi-cursor key) and (enter key) is referred to as "select". In addition, in the description of the operation is pressing procedure for entering characters in the entry field on the screen, the final step of pressing omitted. When there are two or more possible operation procedures, the simplest one is mentioned. INFORMATION • The message that "I cannot answer to the phone right now. C o n t e n t s / H a n d l i n g i n s t r u c t i o n s Features of FOMA F901iC FOMA is the name of a set of services provided by DoCoMo based on W-CDMA, which is recognized as one of the systems compliant to the global standard for third generation wireless communications (IMT-2000). It's amazing because it's i-mode! i-mode is an online service used with i-mode devices. This service supports connection to i-mode sites (programs) or i-mode-compatible sites that provide a variety of useful information and allows you to exchange i-mode Mail. Main functions of FOMA F901iC "Video-phone" supporting Chara-den Phone conversations can be made while displaying both your image and the other party's image simultaneously. You can send a character instead of your image with movements (Chara-den). → P89 Full-fledged camera and movie camera functions Out-camera is an auto focus CCD camera of 2,040,000 effective pixels (Number of recording pixels: 2,000,000). You can shoot a still image of up to 2 M pixels (1224 x 1632 dots). In addition to 20x zoom (Linear zoom) that zooms in on images smoothly, various modes are available for shooting including close-up, framed shooting and → P180 sequential shooting. A video function that allows to shoot 30 high- quality frames per second is provided.→ P187 You can register the personal data of JAN code or QR code into the Phonebook easily and connect to i-mode site (Barcode → P201 reader function). i-mode Mail supporting Deco-mail Mail text can be decorated for fun by simple operations. In addition to coloring, decorations and resizing of characters, various settings such as inserting of images to a text and lines → P263 are available. 3D x 3D The synergy effects between enhanced 3D graphics and advanced 3D sounds give realistic feeling of auto racing game, etc. Chat mail Message can be exchanged as if chatting with many friends at the same time. The chat mail screen lists simultaneous sending addresses and mail text can be composed by in-line entry easily. → P313 Support for i αppli/i αppliDX Up-to-date information can be obtained by using i αppli as the standby display or accessing multiple servers at the same time. Synchronizing i αppli information with information stored in your FOMA terminal such as phonebook data and received/ sent messages creates your own phone.→P328 i-mode ＦｅｌｉＣａ Downloading the i-mode ＦｅｌｉＣａ compatible i αppli enables you to charge electronic money to the ＩＣ card of your FOMA terminal from the site or check the balance and usage history of the card. ＦｅｌｉＣａ allows your phone to be more useful in the actual life.→P362 Flash support Those expressive Flash support sites with various animations can be used. An image that employs Flash can be taken into your FOMA terminal and → P218 set as the stand-by display. i-motion Video/sound can be obtained from sites or Internet to enjoy them. i-motion obtained can be set to a ring tone or incoming image → P356 as "Movie ringtone". Plentiful safety settings ＩＣ card lock ＩＣ card lock function that disables the ＦｅｌｉＣａ function and ＦｅｌｉＣａ- compatible i αppli is provided. → P365 Remote lock In case FOMA terminal is lost or stolen, any unauthorized use of it can be avoided by setting All lock and ＩＣ card lock through remote control. → P166 Fingerprint authentication function Fingerprint authentication function that allows you to lock/release your FOMA terminal with a single operation is provided. Together with the terminal security code, the fingerprint sensor protects important personal data stored in i-mode ＦｅｌｉＣａ and your FOMA →P156 terminal. Privacy mode By setting Privacy mode to the phonebook, message, i αppli, movies, still images, schedules, received call list, redial history, recorded messages, unauthorized access to your FOMA terminal can be prevented. →P163 Note: For details on other Safety settings, refer to P151. Other superior functions and external data interchange C o n t e n t s / H a n d l i n g i n s t r u c t i o n s Multitask function Multitask function is provided to allow more than one application to run at the same time. For example, your schedules can be viewed on the display during a video-phone call. → P442 3D sound support This function allows to create sound that is 3-dimensional or moves around in space using stereo speakers or stereo headphones. Realistic i appli games, ring alerts and/or, i-motions can be enjoyed with this function. → P129 Support for "miniSD memory card" "miniSD memory card", a common standard of external memory, is supported. It enables the functions given below. Data in FOMA terminal such as images, melodies, phonebook and messages can →P413 be backed up. Movies or music data created by external devices and saved on the miniSD memory card may be played back in FOMA terminal. →P582 When FOMA terminal is connected to a PC with the FOMA USB connection cable (optional) or USB cable available on the market for connecting the desktop holder, the miniSD memory card inserted in FOMA terminal can be used →P497 as a removal disk of the PC. Large high-definition display The 2.4-inch QVGA (240 x 320 dots) TFT LCD is provided for the display. i-motion can be displayed smoothly to fill the display. For the sub-display, the 1.0-inch 65536-color organic EL LCD (96 x 96 dots) is mounted. Movie ringtone can be displayed on the sub-display in conjunction with the display. → P27 Infrared communication and infrared remote control functions The phonebook data, messages, images, melodies, schedules and other data can be exchanged with devices with an infrared communication function.
