Two world maps are hanging on my bedroom wall. One is a Chinese edition(版本)and
the other is an English edition. There are differences between them.
One difference is the way the continents are placed on the map. The Chinese edition
map has China in the center, with Canada in the top right corner. However. On the
English edition, China is not in the center. Instead, Canada and the United States
of America have taken its place.
Another difference is the colour. The colours found on the Chinese edition map
are mostly warm colours. For example, China is coloured a very bright red. The colours
found on the English edition map are mostly blue, green and yellow. There is not
even the slightest bit of red on that map. What causes this difference are the
different cultures.
The third difference between these two maps is the use of symbols. A circle with
a dot in the middle is the symbol for a capital city on the Chinese map, while the
English map uses a star. There are two different symbols, but both represent the
capital cities.
I enjoy looking at the different world maps very much. I can study and look at
them for hours, without getting bored. I can now understand both editions of the
maps better, because I’ve learnt to read English. That makes it even more enjoyable!
