Introduction
InnovMetric Software offers intermediate releases of PolyWorks on a monthly basis. These intermediate
releases contain new tools, improvements to existing tools, and fixed issues. These changes and new tools are
documented in the Intermediate Release Notes.
For the changes and new tools included in the latest major release of PolyWorks, see the
WhatisNewInPolyWorks.pdf file, available on the Help > What’s New > PolyWorks 2017 menu item of the modules as
well as of the Workspace Manager.
Instructions for installing intermediate releases
The latest intermediate release always includes all of the previous intermediate releases as well as the base
major version of the software. Intermediate releases are numbered sequentially. When installing an
intermediate release, the previous intermediate release is automatically uninstalled.
To download and install an intermediate release of PolyWorks, proceed as follows:
1.
In your web browser, go to http://www.innovmetric.com.
2. Click Technical Support Zone.
3.
Enter your Username and Password, then click LOG IN.
If necessary, create a user account.
4. Click the Software Releases tab, then click the desired intermediate release to download a compressed .zip
file.
5. Click DOWNLOAD THIS SOFTWARE.
6. Close all open PolyWorks applications.
7. Decompress the downloaded file and install the intermediate release of PolyWorks.

General
The latest release of Spatial's InterOp CAD import technology has been integrated. The following formats can
now be imported:
CATIA V5 version V5-6R2017
3DExperience (CATIA V6) version up to V6 R2017x
Fixed issues:
Issues have been fixed with the STEP, Parasolid, and NX CAD model importers.
PolyWorks|Inspector
The following improvements have been made to the Control Reviewer:
Users can now view the automatic project update errors and
warnings directly in the Control Reviewer, in the new Update
Status column. The update status of objects considers the context
(data alignment and coordinate system) of each control, as an
object may be in error in the context of a control, but not in the
current context of the application. Note that the Update Status
column has also been added to the Geometry Controls pane.
A menu bar has been added to the Control Reviewer so users can
easily navigate through all available operations.
To facilitate navigation between the Control Reviewer and the Tree
View, objects can now be selected in the Tree View using controls
selected in the Control Reviewer. The operation is available through
the Edit > Select Objects menu item of the Control Reviewer main
menu.
A Manage Control Views dialog box has been added to allow
reordering and deleting control views. It is accessed through the Control
View > Manage Control Views menu item.
The dialog box lists the control views of the project, and offers
buttons to Delete, Move Up, or Move Down a selection of control
views.
The Measure > Features > Edit Measured Points and Report > Create Tables > From Feature Measured Points
operations are now available for surface features.

Intermediate Release 1
PolyWorks|Inspector offers new methods for probing slots and rectangles
using only 5 points. This will benefit users that have processes where the time
required to measure each feature is critical. The probing of slots has also been
enhanced to allow users to acquire points on the sides of the slot as well as on
the arcs, which gives more precise measurements of the width of a slot. Here is
what users should know about these new probing methods:
The Standard submethod for probing slots has been renamed Arcs Only,
and a new Sides and Arcs submethod has been added:
With the Sides and Arcs submethod, users probe slots in four steps:
first side, first arc, second side, and second arc.
When using a Fixed number of points, users have access to two
methods for specifying the number of points:
-
-
Per Side and Arc, where users specify the number of Points per
side and Points per arc.
5 Points, which is a special predefined method, where users probe
2 points on the first side, 1 point on the first arc, 1 point on the
second side, and 1 point on the second arc.
When defining measurement points from the nominal primitive, users
have access to the same two methods for specifying the number of
points: Per Side and Arc and 5 Points.

Intermediate Release 1
The following improvements have been made to the probing of rectangles.
The minimum number of points required to probe a rectangle is now 5
points: 2 on the first side and 1 on each of the three remaining sides.
When using a Fixed number of points, users have access to two
methods for specifying the number of points:
-
-
Per Side, where users then specify the number of Points per side.
5 Points, which is a special predefined method, where users probe
2 points on the first side, 1 point on the second side, 1 point on the
third side, and 1 point on the fourth side.
When defining measurement points from the nominal primitive, users
have access to the same two methods for specifying the number of
points: Per Side and 5 Points.
Fixed issues:
The tolerance test for SPC controls is consistent with the tolerance test in report tables.
The Surfaces used for computation property of surface features is correctly inherited from the CAD
model upon creation of the surface feature.
When a surface feature uses NURBS surfaces for computation, linked surface comparison points that are
beyond the surface boundary measure their deviation to the surface as specified in the Data points
beyond surface boundary property of the surface feature.
A data color map using a selection of reference elements can be remeasured using another selection of
reference elements.
The probing parameters of a measured feature follow the measured primitive when using the Merge
Measured into Nominal operation.
The Align Data using Best-fit Cross-Section operation can handle cross-sections that are linked to an
airfoil gauge on which the Best-fit cross-section property is set.

PolyWorks|Modeler
Fixed issues:
A software crash has been fixed in the Reconstruct NURBS Model Surfaces operation.
Portable metrology plug-ins
Fixed issues:
An issue has been fixed in the Leica AT400 Laser Tracker and Leica Laser Tracker plug-ins. The positions
of reflectors are now correctly received.
The Geodetic V-STARS plug-in better handles situations where the probe is not completely visible.
CNC CMM and I++ plug-ins
Nikon Metrology laser scanners are now supported on Pantec and Wenzel controllers that use a serial
connection.
Fixed issues:
Using the Go to approach position as retraction distance is functional for Wenzel WPC 2010, 2020, and
2030 controllers.
